The Spoken Language
Well, for most non-Caitians, listening to our language for the first time seems like listening to just purring. If they continue to listen, they will notice that there are several different sounds. They flow together to form an easily spoken language, for Caitians anyway. For humans, you have to know how to roll your r's. It's actually pretty close to the purring tone the language is supposed to have. Many times you will hear some equivalent to 'r' in our language. It is by far the most used sound. I really can't say much in text on how to speak it. Just practice saying the words I've spelled (as closely as possible) in Terran phonetics. If the neighborhood cats start following you and wanting to chat, you're getting it.
The Writen Language
If our written language appears to be a lot of scratches in something, that's because, essentially, it is. The Caitian written language comes from the ancient method, by which, our ancestors would use their claws to scratch messages into whatever they could find. It evolved into the style you see on Caitian documents today. When records began being kept regularly, carving tools and styluses were developed so people wouldn't wear down their claws. Today, Caitian PADDs will respond to the scratching method, though not nearly as much force is needed. The written language is phonetic, but it can be tricky to find the Terran equivalents because many pronunciations are vocalized differently or depend on the letters surrounding it.
Here's the Caitian "alphabet." These are all the letters we need to make our entire language. In my opinion, a lot of species could learn a thing or two about simplicity from us. Humans should pay extra close attention.

Here is a list of Caitian words (in Terran phonetics) with their translations. Consider this the Caitian/Federation Standard Dictionary. To make a word posessive (my, his, hers...) add -rres to the end of the word.

EDIT: Slovíčka, která jsem vytvořila pro potřeby M'Renn a svých logů
ssskk - podle všeho univerzální nadávka, použitelná jak sama o sobě jako výkřik, tak jako přídavné jméno.
Sssk'k - varianta předchozí nadávky, liší se zřejmě přízvukem, nebo něčím podobným... v lingvistice ještě nejsem dost dobrá. Použita v kontextu "Sssk'k naléhavé!", dává tedy najevo nesouhlas s větou, která následuje za ní. ("Houby naléhavé", jen asi o něco silnější), nebo ve významu "K čertu s..."
parr-r - "jasně" nebo podobná neformální varianta "ano"
D'lerrn'asti'a! - "Nech mě!"
Ohledně pozdravu dále v logu Anděl mezi paddy píšu, že "Správně je to prr-re, s důrazem na to prr. Když to vyslovíte p-rrr-e, znamená to květináč..."

Navíc se tohle hledá podstatně nejlépe.
Když jsem chtěla použít jeden odkaz, který jsem sem umisťovala, zjistila jsem, že už neexistuje. Naštěstí jsem měla obsah stránky zálohovaný a protože šlo o klingonské nadávky, umístila jsem ho na Veqlargh.
